Martinez: Everton will make January signings

Everton Manager Roberto Martinez has said that he will definitely be making signings in the January Transfer Window.  The Spaniard has lost 2 players to long term injuries and expects Arouna Kone and Darron Gibson to miss the entire season.  Gibson injured his knee on international duty and Kone also has a long term knee injury.

Martinez knows he can take advantage of the impending window and they have already identified who can help plug the gaps.

“We are going to use the window in January to try to help the team because we lost two players for the long term,” said the Spaniard.

“Arouna and Darron are two very important players for us so we will try to see if we can identify one or two players that can help the group.

“We have been working hard to identify who can help the group and that is what we are looking for in January.”

“Arouna started the first part of his recovery and it is going to be long-term, as expected,” he added.

“I don’t think we are going to see Arouna this season.

“If we can get him back for the final two months he will have done really well.

“There was a big chunk of cartilage that had to be repaired in his knee.

“In the same manner we are hoping we can see Darron Gibson before the season ends but clearly it is a long-term injury as well.”

One player that looks nailed on for a move to Everton is Gibsons Irish compatriot Aiden McGeady.  The Irishman has been transfer listed by his Russian club Spartak Moscow and it is believed that Everton have already enquired about a move.  He is out of contract in the summer.

Brazilian midfielder Fernando that plays for Porto has also been linked and he is another player who’s contract runs out in the summer.
