Kevin Mirallas challenge should have been a red according to the player himself
Super Kevin Mirallas was back on form during the weekends Merseyside Derby after scoring the opening Everton goal in a thrilling game against Liverpool at Goodison Park.
Winger Kev felt he was lucky to be on the pitch though after a knee-high challenge on Luis Suarez that bought applause from across the nation. Suarez was guilty of a number of bad challenges on Mirallas in the derby last season and Mirallas said that revenge wasn’t on his mind.
He said “When I made the challenge the first thing I thought was that it was going to be a red card,” said Mirallas.
“I was genuinely going for the ball but I know I caught him on the knee and I said sorry straight away.
Meanwhile Belgium compatriot Romelu Lukaku felt his brace in the match was his best experience in league football, the Belgian was a constant thorn in the Liverpool side in the second half and he seems to be loving his time at Goodison
‘The best experience I ever had in club football,’ he told BT Sport.
‘To play in such a derby is a great honour and to score two goals is great but the pity is we didn’t win.
‘The manager said before the that game last week that we also had a lot of chances but we had to stay positive and keep on working.
‘That’s what we did today, we did our best, especially my team-mates helped me to score two goals.’
‘I’m just doing my best,’ he said.
‘I try to help my team-mates. Week after week I try to improve and to get the best out of my games and I think it’s going well right now.
‘This year we have a great squad to do it. We have a lot of experienced players. We have great young players also that come in and just try to come in and do their best.
‘It’s a great mix and hopefully we end up very high in the league.’
Everton would love to keep the on-loan Chelsea star, but after slotting home his 7th goal in 7 league starts for Everton they know this may not be possible. The big Belgian is the threat that Everton have lacked for many years and he suits the style of play that Roberto Martinez is trying to introduce, offering a threat in the air and on the ground.
