    Ken Done Wright

Firstly I would like to say Welcome to Everton Football Club Roberto Martinez. The circus that was David Moyes leaving Everton has now been forgotten and we move onto another era, hopefully resulting in us kicking on and pushing even harder for a Champions League place.

During the press conference yesterday, Martinez came across as a well spoken philosopher of football. Speaking enthusiastically about the club and the direction he wants to take us. Although Kenwright has possibly made a mistake by letting the “Champions League” objective out of the bag, for me he was caught up in the moment and excitement of revealing our new gaffer. Yes the Champions League needs to be the aim and objective, whether it be the forthcoming season or the season after. A realistic aim for me this season under Martinez is to maintain a top 5/6 finish.

With a couple of new and I must stress, “quality additions” in the Summer, you never know what we could achieve. Keeping hold of the likes of Baines, Jagielka, Mirallas will be vital to what we want to achieve this and the next couple of years. For me if we were to sell Fellaini, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. If we were to get around £25m-£30m for him, I would take it. My only hope is that Kenwright gives Martinez the majority of the transfer fee to re-invest into the squad.

Moving onto Bill Kenwright. To be fair to him I think he has done everything right in the search for the new manager. He has interviewed as many as 4/5 candidates. As he said from the off, “a decision will not be rushed into” Martinez may not have been everybody’s first choice but we don’t know what goes on behind closed doors or what goes on during the interview process. The decision could possibly have come sooner but whats the rush? We can only trust what Kenwright say’s when he made the decision, after all Bill did take Moyes from Preston and gave him a chance, this may have been a fluke or just good intuition. The thing i thought Kenwright did get wrong during the press conference was mentioning we had money to spend.

He has many many people who try to lambaste him for any decision he makes whether it be a right or wrong decision. For me, he has done everything right in this decision. Even Dave Whelan felt a backlash from Everton after he revealed we had agreed a compensation package with Wigan when infact we, according to Everton hadn’t decided who the manager was going to be. I think Everton wanted to be the ones to announce it not Wigan and most certainly not the limelight hogging Mr Whelan.

All in all I think Kenwright has done a good job in appointing Roberto Martinez and he has done the right thing in keeping everything quiet, out of the media and interviewing more than one person. I like the way he kept his options open before deciding on the right man for the job. I for one will support Kenwrifght in this decision. No matter what you think about Kenwright he has done very well in appointing Martinez, an up and coming young manager with bright ideas and a bright future. Lets back him through thick and thin and give the man a chance.

    Thanks

    1. What options did BK really have? Laudrup showed little/no interest and would cost c.£10m in compensation and does he really yet fully deserve all the plaudits he’s been getting after just one year in the PL? Pereira more a coach than manager and hard to distinguish his impact as opposed to that of his predecessors. Rangnick offered a serious substantial CV, but unclear whether he was ever really interested in the job, press reports are confused and confusing. Internal candidates are all still too inexperienced. So welcome Roberto and look forward with optimism to see if he can surpass Moyes in blooding youth, for flair, attacking play and a return to the school of science.

    2. Bang on. I think kenwright gets a lot of unfair press for a man who obviously cares and wants the best for the club
