The topsy turvy ‘Will Moyes go or not’ debate continues and I now think he’ll go.
In January when he was talking about leaving it until the end of the season and his decision will be made on how well we do in the two remaining competitions, I thought he was a goner. We were removed out of the cup by Wigan and that only increased my suspicions of his departure.
Then came along April, where we got through our tricky patch. I then thought he was staying. He was talking about staying if we made Europe and if he could see progress and the chance for improvement. We were still in the hunt for Europe.
After yesterday’s interview, I think he’s going again. After we (or the ref) effectively killed off any hopes left of a European adventure next year, his interview was rather telling in my opinion. Although it was obvious he wasn’t going to be happy, there seemed a feeling or resignation in him. He mentioned that Europe was progress, and that for me was his final straw in whether he’d stay or not.
So what can we expect if he stays?
Progress – I think Moyes is looking for significant progress. What we can expect if Moyes stays is slow progress although we shouldn’t expect it. Look back to eleven years ago when he came in. Fighting relegation. Then look to five years ago, we were in Europe but the league was easier then and we were still missing that crucial right hand side (we were playing Osman and Hibbert/Neville there). Now we have that first eleven to challenge anyone, but are missing that squad that can change the game when the first eleven isn’t working or to freshen up to hold on to games that we haven’t this season. If Moyes stays, expect a better squad overall that should be challenging properly for Champions League in a few years.
Safety and Consistency – Even if things don’t work out the way we would hope if Moyes stays, we’ll always be safe and always be consistently good. We can always expect class and dignity within Everton and we can expect 100% in almost every game.
The things that annoy – Every Evertonian acknowledges that Moyes is at least a good manager. Some do get annoyed with his tactics in certain games and the substitutions to match.
What can we expect if he goes? (As long as we get someone decent in)
Freshness – Even from a big Moyes fan, I think things have gone a little stale. If were to get a new manager, new ideas, new tactics, an unpredictability would come in.
Excitement – The excitement ahead of the new season would raise and there would be a new buzz about the place, something we haven’t had in a couple years.
Danger – There is a danger that a new manager might fail, that he might not be up to Moyes’ standard and brings us back down the table. There is the danger that what little money we have will be wasted and that is crucial to an Everton side that need careful management.

time for barkley to play and Osman sit on the bench or sold, I would like to see barkley mirallas and coleman play in the same team and form a great partnership, Osman is too slow but moyes perseveres with him week in week out, I imagine if hibbert was fit moyes would be playing him ahead of coleman because moyes insisted that hibbert and Osman played every week
giving osman stick yet again! hes miles ahead of barkley whos to naive with his positional sense, ossie’s been class for many years but goes unnoticed, start watching a few games and you’ll see, clueless post!
You will get your wish guys when Moyes leaves, then all the idiots either here or on Toffeeweb will start relishing the relegation battles and the excitement of the last day escapes.

Ups forgot to mention that when we were qualifying for Europa League 3 years in a row 3 English teams reached the last four of the CL, but the league was softer?!?!? idiot
You’ve proved my point exactly there Stefan. 3 teams were immense. The rest were beatable and that’s what we did by getting into Europe. Now, there’s Man Utd and City easily top 2, then Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham with fantastic squads and more points are needed than ever to get into the top 5 even. So pipe down.

I think Moyes needs to back himself – Everton have become known for bringing through youth and this has stopped recently. He should sell Fellini / Osman / Baines / Hibbert / Johnny H. Kenwright will give him more cash than a new manager. Moyes should then invest this cash. He has a fast attacking player in Ovid – for left back – Duffy is ready for centreback – coleman is our first choice right back. Barkley for Osman – and then he still has the money from the transfers to spend – approx – £40m – £50m. We could have 8 quality young players for that
