Everton have £10m transfer kitty but will look to frees and loans

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has been given a £10m transfer budget for January, but will look to free transfers and the loan market according to the Daily Star.

If the story coming from The Star is correct, it will be a large kick in the teeth for Everton fans who saw the club sell Marouane Fellaini and Victor Anichebe for a combined fee of around £34.5m and saw the club spend around £19m on Arouna Kone, James McCarthy and Joel Robles in the summer.

The story says that Everton will look towards Spartak Moscow winger Aiden McGeady on a pre-contract agreement or a short-term loan after the Irishman got on the wrong side of his current employers.  The Irishman is out of contract in the summer and Everton boss Roberto Martinez is thought to be keen to bring the player in on a Free transfer or a loan.

Also linked is American striker Landon Donovan who has has successful loan moves to the club before.  This may be ruled out by the MLS though who are keen to the striker to rest over the winter period.

The article does mention that Nikica Jelavic may be allowed to leave the club on loan, unless a buyer can be found and West Ham are thought to be close to coming to an arrangement for him and Johnny Heitinga is likely to leave the club for a small fee which would free up wages of £65k per week.

The one bright spot for Everton fans if they do only have a £10m kitty.  Is this to keep some money in reserve for a bid in the summer for Romelu Lukaku?

    1. Silly season again. I have to say I’m very happy with frees and loans as long as El Bob is happy. If he has money to spend but chooses not to it’s no kick in the teeth. I’d rather he bide his time until he understands fully how to improve something that is working quite brilliantly. Chucking money at a team is not always the answer, look at Spurs. Look at the money the shite have spent when they obviously shouldn’t. 10.5 million for Borini. 7.7 million for Aspas. 15 million on Joe Allen. I’m happy with a loan deal to see if they settle, unless you are absolutely sure as in the case of the wonderful McCarthy no need to chuck money at something that is working very well.

    2. Has the paper established that Roberto has 10 million to spend? I presumed that the additional revenue from the Fellaini sale had gone to the same black hole that the Arteta money had gone to, you know no money available for the manager and yet the debt wasn’t reduced either. Our two recent managers have/did well in spite of this charlatan not because of him. Absolute travesty if they have informed the manager that there is no additional funds. They appear to have no idea of the concept of speculate to accumulate.

    3. Gareth, it’s Kenwright wouldn’t trust him as far as I could kick him, we should have loads, (65M TV money,9M from aborted Fer sale,12M left from Felli sale, 86M, where the fuck is it Bill???) Given it to his bum chums, twat!!!! Sooner we get rid of him the better for EFC.

    4. I don’t really thing the hierarchy at everton are going to contact the star to inform them of our budgets and targets-get a grip before you start slagging kenwright of on this one
