Duffy: It was a good test to stay at Yeovil and help to keep the club up

Everton defender Shane Duffy has admitted that he is glad that Everton are watching him during his loan spell with Yeovil Town.  Yeovil originally signed for Yeovil on a 1 month loan spell that was extended to 3 months before extending until the end of the season.

Duffy has impressed during his spell and now the Republic of Ireland man has admitted that he is glad to have the opportunity to extend.

Duffy said: “I was speaking to Everton just last week and it was good to hear that they are watching me. They are seeing I am doing well.

“I just need to keep going. The last few games have been a bit mad and we didn’t get the results but Everton saw that and they can see where I can go from here.”

Duffy admitted that he did have other options, but chose to stay at Huish Park until the end of the season and help Yeovil Town in their relegation fight.

“It was a good test to stay here. I could have gone to other places but I wanted to stay.

“I thought it would be a test for myself and the lads. I have never been in this situation in my career so I wanted to give it my best shot.”

Duffy admitted the quietness of the Somerset town is something that he is getting used to but says that it probably suits him as he can concentrate on his football rather than the bright lights of Liverpool.

He said: “It’s all right, it’s just quiet. It’s probably what I needed. I maybe needed to get out of the big city and focus on football.

“Just going to training, going home and often then watching football is good for someone who arrived here aged 21.

“It’s good for young people to realise that different side of football, coming from Everton.”

    1. I think this was the right move for him. I just wonder if he’d have got Premier League playing time if Antolin hadn’t signed. Shame if we lose him and then find that our back up is permanently on the treatment table.
