Distin: We deserved better against Chelsea, we need to be more focussed

Veteran Everton defender Sylvain Distin says that winning the man of the match award for the Chelsea game was no consolation for losing to the Londoners at the weekend.

Distin was in tremendous form in the capital and says that the team as a whole didn’t deserve to be on the wrong end of a 1-0 loss, but says that there are definitely positives to take from the performance.

“We are very disappointed as we played a great game today and deserved better,” Distin said.

“It’s hard in the heat of the moment to think about the positives. You just see the negative but I’m sure after one or two days we will calm down and realise the performance we have put on today.”

In the aftermath of the game, Everton manager Roberto Martinez thought that the foul given against Phil Jagielka shouldn’t have been given, but Distin was more philosophical

“It’s part of football,” he added when asked about the foul that was given in the lead-up to the goal. “Chelsea are an amazing team but it was for us to be more focused.

“Maybe it was a lack of experience and a lack of concentration in the final minutes when we conceded that goal. It’s difficult to accept.”

    1. The PR department always seem to wheel out Silvain to commiserate about a loss.Probably because he can’t be faulted very often, either for standards,or for effort. The good thing is that he hasn’t had to explain/apologise so often this season, has he?
