Distin believes Everton can still make the Champions League

Distin believes Everton can still make the Champions League

Evertons veteran defender Sylvain Distin refuses to give up on a Champions League place while it is still mathematically possible and says the team will focus on winning as many points as they can do.

Everton look more likely to be fighting for a Europa league spot and have 10 games left to try and push for more.

“As long as it’s mathematically possible, we’ll try,” Distin told evertontv. “We won’t give up.

“When you play for Everton, you’re used to people doubting you. It won’t be the first time; it won’t be the last. We just focus on ourselves, focus hard and we’ve got 10 games left to finish as high as we can.”

Distin is aware that anyone in the league can take points off anyone and highlighted Saturdays team Cardiff City as a decent example.

“This league is amazing,” Distin added. “When you think a team like Cardiff is just one place above bottom of the league, it’s unreal.

“They gave us a tough game today and clearly they deserve to be higher than that.”

    1. Nice one Syl, like what your saying mate! We can win ALL our remaining home games and great shout for 3 away (Fulham Southampton and Hull)and we’re good enough to get results at Newcastle and Sunderland!!! Keep the faith.

    2. We will probably win most of our remaining matches.Unfortunately,so will Chelsea,City and one other team. That leaves Arsenal, who we have to play again too.We might squeeze past them at a pinch, but it will be a close run thing, won’t it?.I hope we do,but it’s theirs to lose rather than ours to win. That flat spot after the Iberian sun break, has cost us loads. The what ifs are mounting. If Gibbo had been fit,if Kone had hit the ground running,if Jela had recovered his form,If Gareth hadn’t landed on Rom.If Ross had worn tougher boots,If Traore had been fully fit,if Joel had been taught to catch as a kid,the list is endless. I just know we will finish ahead of the Red Mancs and Spurs, because, they are now more likely to lose than draw recently and I don’t see it improving. What we should be doing is looking forward to next season when,if we do good transfer business in the Summer,we can push on to that next level.

      • Hi another 3pts Sat, Arsenal got crushed and definitely in our sights, roll on Tues in Geordie land. I agree with the what if’s but injuries happen and we had too many! But a lot of them Ross, Lukaku, Bainesy, Deulofeu & Seamus will be fresh which bodes well for the run-in!!!!!!
