Baines: We can grind out results
Leighton Baines has said that the win against Fulham can show the world that Everton can grind out big results, even when the performance isn’t up to their normal high standards.
Baines also went on to praise the decisions of manager Roberto Martinez as he made 3 substitutions which all had a massive impact on the game. Steven Naismith and Kevin Mirallas both scored after coming on as subs and Aiden McGeady was instrumental in helping set up the goals.
“Performance-wise, we weren’t at our best [against Fulham] but I think that shows what we’re about – being able to stay in games, grind results out and win games,” said Baines.
“It was tough. We knew Fulham would have stages in the game where they may get on top but we dug in, worked hard and in the end we came out on top.”
Baines added: “The substitutions – Naisy coming on made a massive difference – they changed the game.
“All the subs had a hand in changing the game around – Kevin and Aiden as well. It made a big difference for us.”
