A missed opportunity, and a possible death-knell in the era of David Moyes ‘Everton

    David Moyes

Now don’t get me wrong, I am fully aware of the fact that we are still hot on the heels of Tottenham in the chase for 4th spot, and that Chelsea aren’t a million miles in front of us, but I cant help but feel that this January’s transfer window will be one of massive regret for both David Moyes and all Everton fans, regardless whether you feel David Moyes is still the man for the job at Everton or not.

On this occasion, it would have certain proved beneficial to ‘speculate to accumulate’, with us in such a lofty, albeit delicately poised position in the League table.

I’m not talking going bonkers like QPR with spending, but taking a chance on a big signing, in an attempt to help us kick on and achieve that much desired goal of a Champions League spot, after all, with the financial rewards of achieving this, a tasty £20-30 million quid in prize money, not to mention the new up and coming revised television revenue that will be received by all 20 clubs in the summer, it could well have paid to taken a punt on a Leroy Fer or an Alvaro Negredo, after all, it’s not like if it all did go pear-shaped, we don’t have assets we couldn’t rake back in what we may have spent.

The sheer lack of ambition shown in the last knockings of Transfer Deadline Day by Everton was bordering on the ridiculous, the board have let David Moyes down big style, by their total lack of financial support in the last decade, but even yesterday was a new low for them.If we even had the 8.6m that was apparently offered to FC Twente, then why wasn’t it used to fund a much-needed arrival in the creative midfield or attacking departments.

I’m not one of these who thinks that the club will fall apart if David Moyes was to leave, nor am i one who thinks he is totally useless, im in the middle, he makes good decisions as well as bad, but I wouldn’t blame him if he turned round to Bill Kenwright and said, enoughs enough, infact id have a darn sight more respect for him if he did so, instead of sitting tight-lipped, getting a lucrative salary and merely plodding along day-to-day.

The  whole thing could have a domino effect, with Moyes perhaps refusing to accept terms on a new deal, and the likes of Marouane Fellaini/Leighton Baines considering moving on to bigger and better things, and with us being so unbelievably close to almost reaching out and touching the promised land of Champions League qualification, it would be disastrous if the team got dismantled, merely because of the fact the Everton Board decided to air on the side of caution instead of cutting Moyes a bit of slack with a few million quid more.. The next 4 months could prove to be a watershed moment in Evertons History, its Top 4 or bust, it’s as black and white as that..

    1. at the very least the board could have ‘loaned’ the money to the club, knowing they would get it back in the summer. this board has no interest in the club except for the bare minimum required to keep us ticking over so they can suck the life out of it. i wish to god our fans would realise they are being conned before we dissapear into administration
