Jagielka: We’re desperate to start playing again
Everton skipper Phil Jagielka is desperate to start playing in the pre-season games following his return from the summer break following a dismal World Cup campaign with England in Brazil.
Jagielka returned to training along with fellow Everton star Leighton Baines following a longer break and revealed that both of them want to get involved as soon as possible following updates on the training from team mates.
Jagielka told evertontv: “Hopefully we’ll get a chance to feature in Ossie’s testimonial. Both of us have known Ossie for so long now and class him as a really good friend, and it would be nice to play our part.
“We’re back in the swing of things now and me and Bainesy are working together having had pretty much the same break.
“We’re trying to push ourselves to get as fit as possible as quick as possible and we’re desperate to start playing in the pre-season games as quickly as we can.”
“When we were finishing up with the World Cup, some of the lads were due back a few days later when we were going off on our break.
“That was a bit surreal because you’re asking them how they’re getting on and things like that and you’re half missing it. Then you’re hearing how hard it is and how tired they are and you can’t help but have a little smile.
“But we knew when we came back we weren’t going to have a tremendous amount of time to get fit, so it was up to us late starters to make sure we kept ourselves ticking over. It looks like everybody’s come back in a good condition anyway, and we feel like we’re going to be ready to go.”
