Barry: I told the manager that I’m confident you are making a wrong decision

Gareth Barry says he was hurt with Manuel Pellegrini’s decision to let him leave Manchester City and says he told the Argentinian that it was the wrong decision.

Barry has also left the door open on a possible return to Goodison Park once his season long loan ends at the end of the season.  The England international plays his final home match of the season today against Manchester United because he isn’t allowed to face his parent club Manchester City and says he won’t wave to fans as he hasn’t made a decision on where he is going yet.

“When somebody tells you they don’t think you’re good enough here, your face doesn’t fit, you don’t just roll over, you’ve got to back yourself,” Barry said.

“I told the manager at the time that ‘I’m confident and you are making a wrong decision’. Any rejection hurts in life but that was that chapter, as soon as I came through the doors at Everton that was all forgotten about. It has been a fantastic year and easy to forget about it.”

Pellegrini has spoken about his decision to let Barry leave and says that he his idea was to allow Jack Rodwell to develop as he was a much younger player.

“Barry is a very good player but he finished his contract at the end of this year and [at the start of the season] he was 32 and Jack Rodwell was 22 so the decision is Rodwell,” Pellegrini said. “The logical reason was for Barry to go to another team because it’s a good team, and he’s at an age where he’s a very useful player also and we stick with Jack.”

On leaving Everton he said “It won’t be a case of waving to the fans after the game – that would be like saying goodbye before I’ve made any decision,” the England international said. “I’m just desperate to finish the season on a high, and hopefully with a win in front of the supporters.

“We spoke at the beginning of the season and said we’d look at it at the end, see how it goes, see where we are, and I’ll make a decision on my future then.

“If the club come in for me and offer me a contract and show me they want me, then it [staying at Everton] is a possibility.”

    1. Lazy Jamie, check your geography. Last time I looked although Argentina invaded the Falklands they never invaded Chile. Pellegrini is from Chile, get Chile. Bit like saying Liverpool is in Manchester.
