Everton to move for Barcelona player – talks begun

Everton are set to make a move for forgotten Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen according to the British press.

Talks have begun for the 31 year old left-sided centreback after the player indicated that he would prefer a move to Everton over West Bromwich Albion, but the player was injured after 12 minutes of a friendly earlier this week.

The former Arsenal defender has struggled for appearances since signing for the club in 2014 and was sent on loan to Roma last season, but only made 9 appearances.

Vermaelen has only played 11 times for Barcelona since signing, scoring 1 goal.  Everton are in the market for a left-sided player who can play a number of positions but have so far struggled to target the right player.

Would Vermaelen be a good signing for Everton?
