Martinez: Garbutt could be loaned to a Premier League Rival
Everton manager Roberto Martinez is delighted to have signed defender Luke Garbutt to a new 5 year deal and says the plan for this season is to loan the young left-back out and it could be to a team in the Premier League.
The Catalan is looking to add vital experience to the England Under 21’s locker and says aslong as he is assured of games, then they will look at this as an option.
“He is someone we wanted to keep in our Club because he’s got a terrific future. He’s been playing for England Under-21s and he’s got probably the best left-back he could learn from here in Leighton Baines, someone he can really get inspired by on a daily basis.
“This pre-season will tell us a lot but the idea is for him to go out on loan and gain important experience.
“Luke feels this is a Club where he can fulfil his potential and we’re looking forward to seeing the best years of him once he’s had the experience of a good loan spell.”
He added: “What’s important for Luke is to play. Just because we feel that he can play in the Premier League doesn’t mean it’s necessarily the right environment. We’re looking for him to get game time.
“Luke is in a position now where he needs to experiment with the game and learn about the game, and you do that by playing.
“If it’s in the Premier League it has to be an environment where he can play, if not we’ll find another team that suits exactly what he needs in order to develop.
“His technical ability is as good as it gets around Europe for a player of his age and all the other aspects that he needs to improve, he’s going to get them by playing.”
Who would be the perfect club for Garbutt to go on loan to?
