Everton in the hunt for £20m man?

Everton manager Roberto Martinez is interested in battling Newcastle United for the transfer of Watford striker Troy Deeney, but not at the £20m the Hornets want for their star player.

According to the Mirror, Watford have slapped a huge price tag on their striker to ward off circling teams and the report says that new Newcastle manager Steve McClaren would go to £10m.

Everton may look towards Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford on loan as an alternative to Deeney should the price be out of reach.

26 year old Deeney has an impressive record at Watford, scoring 21 goals in the Championship last season and 77 in 159 starts in all competitions for the Hornets.

Do you believe Everton are even interested in Deeney?

  1. No all paper talk, he will not go, Everton will not cough up 20 mil, maybe next season when he hits 20 goals again but the Pozzos will want 30 mil then.

  2. It comes down to Watford don’t want to sell so let’s put a silly price on him. £20 million is more than he is worth to Everton in fact at this moment it is more than he is worth full stop but for us he is very important this season. At the start of last season we were offered £9 million and turned it down.

  3. Not a chance. Watford have struggled in the Prem before because of early serious injuries to top goalscorers, Mooney in 1999 and King in 2006. There’s no way on earth that they would lose their top scorer for this amount of money. £120m to go up to the Prem, £5bn TV deal, and WFC to sell chances of a slice of that for this? Sorry, no way. Good luck, toffees, but not in your first game 😉
